The Mentalist's Telepathy Practice Deck
The mentalist shows the audience a deck of Spanish cards. As he shows the faces, he explains that it consists of 40 cards. Four suits: coins, cups, clubs, and swords, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, jack, knight, and king.
He then explains that this is his telepathy practice deck. Transmission and reception of thought. That is why, showing the backs, they are numbered from 1 to 40.
Of course, the mentalist knows what number is marked on the back of each card. But the audience does not. He leaves the deck on the table in full view of everyone.
He is going to do an experiment with three spectators:
1.- He will read the first spectator's mind. The spectator will think of a number from his seat and the mentalist will know which card it belongs to BEFORE the spectator says the number he is thinking of. To avoid any doubt, the mentalist writes the card on a blackboard before the spectator says the number.
2.- He will transmit his thoughts to the second spectator. The mentalist draws a card on the board. He stares into the eyes of the second spectator, who is also in his seat, and immediately afterwards, the spectator will say the first number that comes to mind. He also writes it down on the board next to the drawn card. He then asks a third spectator to come on stage and witness what is about to happen. Now all that remains is to find the two cards by their numbers (on the back) in the deck and show that they match the ones written on the board.
3.- Finally, he will reveal a prediction with the participation of the third spectator. Before the show begins, the mentalist has an envelope in plain sight that contains a prediction. He asks the third spectator to name ANY CARD in the deck (except the two that have already been revealed). The mentalist finds the card and leaves it on the table. To make sure that this is the card the spectator wants, he is given a chance to change it. Once he has made his decision, he is given the envelope to open and read the prediction. It reads: “The card that the third spectator will think of is number XX.” The spectator then turns over the card and checks that the prediction is correct. This is one of the possible presentations of the effect.
